come in *voice sounds a bit choked from the crying but he has already been able to regain his composure* *wipes at his face with his hanky again after he briefly looked up to see Hogan enter* *is slumped in his chair and keeps his gaze down on his hands* *waits until Hogan closed the door* *doesn't really know how to talk to him since Hogan obviously hates him so much that he thinks he deserves his fate* *decides to not adress their personal difference at all, since talking about that probably won't make a difference anyway* *even if he'd beg Hogan for forgiveness, how could Hogan interpret it in any other way than empty words to save his hide* *accusations won't do the trick either, so its sure best to keep his mouth shut on these matter* *looks up at Hogan swallowing hard* Please, Hogan, help me. You can't possibly be so cruel as to let that happen to me. *hopes Hogan has listened in so he doesn't have to repeat what happened* I need your help. ...I beg you *the last one was hard to get out since it means loosing his last shred of pride but facing torture doesn't leave room for pride*

*feels his heart clench and his stomach twist when he hears Klink’s choked up voice* *had planned to deny Klink any help if asked no matter what* *finds he can't do that anymore* *is still kind of mad, though* *understands that their tempers were running high last night, but doesn't feel like that was an excuse to say hurtful things* *he'd managed not to do it* *doesn't understand why Klink couldn't control himself when he's supposed to be older and more mature* *mentally admits he's acting a little immature* *doesn't care because he is too stubborn to simply let this situation go* *it's a matter of pride* *but damn it all, he'd told Klink he should ask for help if he needed it* *and now Klink is* *feels like he's gotten in over his head* *Should he reveal his plan? Should he let Klink sweat?* *he has no clue* *sinks down into the guest chair* *sighs* *can't resist Klink when he begs* *mostly because he knows the kommandant must be truly desperate to do that* "I can be. I'm a ruthless man when the situation calls for it. However, I make no promises if I'll be able to help you, Colonel Klink. This one might be beyond my abilities to fix. You might actually be on your own this time." *feels lower than dirt for even saying that when he knows it's a lie* *but needs Klink’s reactions later on to be genuine so forces himself to stay strong**figures he is gonna have to do a ton of apologizing and explaining once all of this is over* *shoves those thoughts from his mind so he can focus* "I guess we could get rid of Hochstetter, but Berlin would just replace him with somebody else. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't."

*looks at Hogan, despair and fear written clearly on his face, when Hogan says he might not be able to help* *his voice sounds shrill when he answers* Getting rid of Hochstetter sounds good to me! No matter who Berlin sends, they can't possibly hate me so much as to actively plot against me for no reason! You know that the photo isn't real! They have nothing against me! It's only Hochstetter's personal crusade! *almost yells in his desperate defensiveness* *he also wants to scream at Hogan why he actively lied to Hochstetter instead of giving him an Alibi* *but doesn't as he doesn't even want to hear the answer* *there's no way he could deal with Hogan's hate and Hochstetter's crusade against him at once* *instead buries his face in his hands as he thinks about how the only person who could help him hates him so much that they don't actually want to help*

*stomach clenches more after seeing Klink’s expression* *wants to kiss him and promise he'll be alright* *shakes his head instead* "Much as I hate to say this, I need Hochstetter around. Yeah, he's evil, but at least I know how he ticks. It's all about the bottom line in a war. At least you won't be around to worry about whether or not people like him wind up ruling the world, though. That's a silver lining." *feels disgusted for adding those last two sentences* *gets to his feet* "If I think of something, I'll let you know. If not, well..." *can't seem to swallow the lump in his throat anymore* *voice becomes choked up* "I am so sorry." *runs out of Klink’s office to go cry in the privacy of his room*

*can't believe how nonchalant Hogan is about all of this* *has he not gotten to know the man at all during the past years?!* *stares after him in disbelief* *then pukes into the bin again*
*after some more trembling sweating and sobbing and half a bottle of cognac he has regained enough control to call Burkhalters office* *he tries several times to no avail* *neither does he reach any of his old comrades in Berlin, it seems they are all in the field or at the same secret conference Burkhalter is at* *so he has written a letter to Burkhalter, explaining what Hochstetter is trying to do, in the faint hope that Hochstetter at least won#t get away unscathed* *he has also written a letter to his mother and sister and his brother Wolfgang* *which caused some more tears to fall*
*wipes his face infront of the small mirror in his office* *puts his coat on since he feels very cold from the inside and also is desperate for something to hide beneath* *then goes out to Hilda* Fräulein Hilda *hands her the letters* *she looks up at him with pity and tears up again when she sees that they are to his family* please make sure these letters reach their destination do not let Hochstetter know about them or put them in with the general camp mail, please especially not the one to Burkhalter *she nods* *seeing her tear up does nothing to him, by now he's only numb* *leaves the Kommandantur and crosses the compound* *enters Barracke 2* I'm here to see Colonel Hogan *he announces emotionlessly with a blank face*

*steps out of his office to see who entered the barracks* *freezes when he sees Klink standing there, looking like death warmed over* *was not expecting this visit* "I'm right here, Kommandant. Would you like to talk inside my office?"

*steps into Hogan's office and waits till he shut the door* *Stares right through Hogan, face white as the wall* As it seems to me you couldn't think of a plan to save me, there is something I need to tell you. *Still is completely emotionless* I am surprised that this doesn't seem to have crossed your mind. *Now actually looks at Hogan fear and hurt in his eyes but his voice stays steady* I'm not a brave man. You know that. *Speaks slower than usual* When Hochstetter interrogates me... I... I won't hold out. I couldn't even if i tried to ! *His voice becomes shrill again and threatens to break* *Squeezes his eyes shut fighting for control and puts up the collar of his coat to feel some comfort as his shoulders tremble* *After he has regained control* *Icy voice* If he takes me he takes you. So you better pack up your operation and get away while you still can. *Looks directly into Hogan's eyes again torn between hurt and hate* I bet you wish you'd never told me now, do you. That would finally make two of us

*bites his tongue to keep from saying anything* *seeing Klink be chalk white is decidedly unnerving* *although seeing the hurt and fear is more guilt inducing than anything else* *briefly wonders if Klink will ever forgive him for this* *figures this is not the time to agree with Klink about his lack of bravery* *but thinks it's brave of him to stick around for the sake of his family* *is touched that Klink will try to hold out for his sake, even though he no doubt feels betrayed* *simultaneously feels still another stabbing pain in his heart* "I appreciate the warning, Kommandant." *can't figure out why Klink is bothering to warn him instead of plotting how to save his own skin* *flinches a bit when he spots the flashes of hate there* "Not really. I've made a lot of choices I regret in this war, but telling you isn't one of them." *desprately wants to give Klink a hug and soothe his nerves* *refrains from doing so* "You're the one who always wanted to know how I accomplished the things I did. Shouldn’t ask questions you don't want the answer to." *realizes how callous those words sounded* "I didn’t mean it like that..."

*is startled at Hogan's callous words* *after all that happened today he is still somehow in disbelief about how Hogan could be so cold to him* *was even their sortof-friendship for naught?* *wonders how Hogan meant it then* *but when Hogan doesn't say anymore he takes his leave* Leben Sie wohl, Hogan
*returns to the Kommandantur* *only half an hour left until Hochstetter said he would be back* *gloomily sits down on the chairn in the corner next to the filing cabinet with the cognac bottle on top* *pours himself another glass and downs it* *fills again then just stares into nothing, mind blank, waiting for his fate*

Schultz:
*when Hochstetter drives through the gates he hurries into the Kommandant's office without knocking* Herr Kommandant!
*finds Klink with a gloomy stare and the last glass of Cognac in hand* *his heart breaks a little for the man* Er ist da... *sadly* I wanted to warn you before he just barges in here ... It ...It was my pleasure serving under you, Herr Kommandant...

*downs the glass in his hand and stands up* *sways a little from the alcohol* Thank you, Schultz *walks up to Schultz with hanging shoulders and offers him his hand* and good luck to you *the door to the ante flys open and Hochstetter strides in with a triumphant grin* *quickly exchanges a last handshake with Schultz before he faces Hochstetter*

*looks Klink up and down* *raises an eyebrow* "Well, well. You actually stayed to face your fate. I must admit, I am surprised. Too bad you picked a horrible time to rediscover your backbone, Klink." *pulls a pair of handcuffs from his belt* *puts them on Klink’s wrists to keep him from deciding to do something stupid* *but also to humiliate him because he's a sadist and enjoys that sort of thing* *roughly shoves Klink towards the Kommandantur's exit* "Schnell, Schnell! I am eager to begin my fun. It has been a long time since I had ze pleasure of interrogating a Luftwaffe officer." *evil cackle*

*comes out with Newkirk and Carter after being notified Hochstetter had arrived* *jaw drops when he sees Klink wearing handcuffs* *is angry about seeing his kommandant being shoved around like he's garbage* *briefly ponders if Klink would mind wearing - or be interested in having him wear - something like that in the bedroom* *tells his libedo this isn’t the time to flare up* *he'll be lucky if Klink even talks to him again, let alone anything else* *addresses his two friends in a low voice* "Carter, go get changed, then lay my uniform out in my room for me. We're gonna have to move quickly. Newkirk, be ready to frisk Hochstetter again. I don’t trust that kraut as far as I can throw him." *waits for them to acknowledge his orders, then walks over to the duo* *gently takes Klink’s elbow to help steady him* *glares at Hochstetter* "The hell is wrong with you, Major? There's no reason for all of this!"

*glares right back* *growls* "Yeah, but he still deserves respect, Hochstetter! Back off so I can help him sit down." *gets in Hochstetter's face when he tries to shove Klink again* *draws himself up to his full height for once* *words come out as a vicious snarl, worse than anything Hochstetter has ever made* "I. Said. Back. Off. Major!" *stresses that word as he taps his eagles* "Colonel Klink is still our kommandant until such time as General Burkhalter replaces him. Now move out of my way!"

*hates being outranked by a mere POW* *that legitimately bothers him* *he shouldn't have that issue at a Stalag* *snarls at Hogan, who, unlike Klink, apparently doesn't give a shit about how loud he is* *nor is Hogan the slightest bit intimidated* *and that pisses him off even more* "Have it your way then, Hogan!"
